Calling all plant whispers

There is a hot debate among the Swiss ethics committee on the rights of plant life. Some may find this interesting, I find it very disturbing. As a friend in high school put it on his pro-life rally, "save the spotted owl, kill the unborn logger." To butcher what David Boze said in my own words, we could have wealthy, well fed Europeans making decisions on the behalf of plants that will negatively affect the development and crop supply of third world countries. Why must we stand in the way of helping people in impoverished nations to protect plants emotional wellbeing ? Boze's guest, Wesley J. Smith, put it well when he descriped this current nature loving, global warming, plant rights movement, as the worship of nature. As followers of Christ, I believe that we must be careful to take care of our planet. However, with the Bible as my guide I believe Genesis 1:26 states clearly that there is something unique about mankind that seperates him from the plants and animals:
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
I value human life because we humans are uniquely created in the very image of God. God help us to return to value those made in Your image. How can we sit by and watch the murdering of millions of babies and the oppression of the third world as we champion the rights of the metaphytes. Now let's not go crazy with pollution and burn down forests for fun. But as I work to redefine "pro-life" I'm going to remember to keep human life on the top of the rights list.
